The Lurue Letters Number 3

Goddess be blessed. Our trip to the Golden Grain was fruitful.

At first it seemed like a normal inn and I was not sure why others had warned us of approaching. After some small talk with the inn keeper, and the bartender Snigrat has brought us drinks, though, things took a turn. Some of the guests in the tavern stopped their chatter and locked the door and oDan briefly tried to convince them to back off but before I knew it we were all fighting the guests and inn keeper for our lives. We thankfully all survived with little more than scratches and punctures.

Snigrat had escaped into the kitchen and we followed. We could not find him and then went on to the cellar. I used Druidcraft to light the farthest torch I could see and it ended up opening a secret passage. We followed it and found hidden rooms with gold and supplies,  a secret way back up to the bar and an entrance to a cavern of tunnels. We hear scratching within.

Rather than following the tunnels at first we decide to ensure that there are no other enemies in the inn. When we go and explore upstairs we are shocked to find an unlocked room with a man. When we enter the room he immediately looks alarmed and asks if we’ve paid the ransom. Not knowing what to say we tell him that yes we have. He confides in us that he is Iggy Alvaro and was the kidnapped merchant with the bag of holding. He seemed sincere but something was off. When try to ask more questions he tried to run. No one was able to catch him until I used Druidcraft to create a loud noise when he reached the stairs. Once he was startled I grappled him and the rest of the party helped get him back to the room.

Kriega went to retrieve Mayor Ormand and we explored the rest of the Golden Grain. Behind a row of rooms was a secret tunnel connected to all of them. If this is where the cult was working it would have been easy for them to take people here.

When the mayor arrives with her bodyguard she takes Iggy and tells us that her comrades will deal with him. We have no other answers.

We decided then to retire back at the Slumbering Serpent. Before resting I praised Lurue for giving me the strength in battle and for blessing me with the ability to stop Iggy. I close praying for protection and guidance, as we will enter the caverns below the Golden Grain tomorrow.
